SHRINIDHI INSTITUTE OF NURSING (Diploma in General Nursing a Midwifery )

The Shrinidhi College of Nursing was established in the year 2003. This programme of study leads to a 3 years and 6 months diploma course. The institute has been approved by Indian Nursing Council vide Certificate No 18-15/1390-INC dt. 29 May 2007 and approved by Government of Karnataka & Karnataka Nursing Council & Affiliated to K.S.D.N.E.B


CURRICULUM

The purpose of GNM course is to prepare a qualified general nurse who will function as a member of a Health team, beginning with consultancy for first level position in both hospital and community health services especially in rural areas.

The school has designed specific curriculum that prepares the student to develop an aptitude for nursing and to provide the required knowledge and skills to give comprehensive nursing care to patients of all types of illness.

There will be two Examinations every year.  One Annual  examination in August and supplementary examination in February.  Theory examination will be held in the identified centres and practical examination will be held in the clinical area of  respective institutions.  Examinations will be held both in the morning and the after noon sessions.

Note: Practical Examination for Psychiatric Nursing will be conducted at the place of clinical experience at the end of clinical instructions by school itself and Internal Assessment marks will be sent to the Council.

6 Months Internship


Eligibility for Examination

Students should have 75% attendance in theory and practicals separately.
  • Students should complete 11 months of  that particular academic year for which    she/he appearing for the examination.

  • Principal should certify that the candidates work, character as satisfactory.

  • If a student fails in one theory paper or practicals  she/he will be allowed to proceed to the next year of study.  she/he may sit for a supplementary examination held subsequently in the failed subjects or practical.  If  she/he fails to clear  supplementary examination,  she/he may be allowed to sit again along with her last year subjects of annual examination.

  • If a student fails in two or more papers or practical she/he will not be allowed to appear for the board examination  next year.  She/he may sit for supplementary examination in the failed subjects or practicals only, but will be eligible for the next year’s examination after one academic year from the date of passing the last examination.

  • No students of category (a) will be allowed to proceed to the third year  (higher class) unless she/he has passed  the subjects of the previous year (backlog to the second year)

  • If a student fails in one theory paper or practical examination of third year, she/he may be allowed to proceed for Internship.  She/he will sit for supplementary examination held subsequently in the failed subjects or practical.

  • If a student fails in two or more papers or practicals she/he will not be allowed to proceed for internship.  She/he may sit for supplementary examination in the failed subjects or practicals only.   Students will not be allowed to proceed for internship till she/he clears the third year examination subjects.

  • All procedures listed in the practical work record book must be signed before each examination as indicated in the book and should be completed at least two weeks before the examination.
  • Students must obtain at least 50% of marks in Internal assessment and  no student will be recommended for board examination if she/he fails in the internal assessment marks.

Eligibility for Admission
  • Minimum and maximum age for admission to the GNM course will be 17 and 35 years respectively.  Years :  for ANM / LHV age is no bar.

  • Minimum Education - 10+2 class passed or its equivalent preferably with Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) subjects with aggregate of 45% marks.

  • Those who have clearedvocational ANM course (revised after 2001) from the school recognized by Indian Nursing Council.

  • Those who have undergone ANM training i.e., 1 ½ years training should have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination.

  • 10th pass and 2 years of ANM course (Revised) registered as ANM.

  • Admission of students shall be once in a year.

  • Students shall be medically fit.
